Welcome to our Inspiration section

Looking for inspiration for celebrating World Ocean Day?

British International School Stavanger, Norway, have just shared their plans with us, and they’re pretty impressive so take a peek here…

This year sees our 4th celebration of World Ocean Day – every year gets a little bigger and better. We have therefore dedicated a whole week this year to celebrate and educate!

Each day will offer our students (aged 6 to 18 years) a range of workshops to choose from.

These include : crocheting mini whales and jelly fish, writing ocean poems in different languages, analysing plastics in the water, choreographing dance routines with an ocean flair, skypeing with shark researchers and other scientists, beach clean ups, costume days and many many more.

In the past we have had dress up days (to raise money for ocean conservation projects), art competitions, beach clean up trips, boat clean up trips and last year’s highlight: teach on the beach!

As a school, we have adopted one of our local beaches. We visit this beach regularly to conduct clean ups with students, staff and families. You can find a few more of our initiatives and activities through our news feeds on https://www.biss.no/news and https://www.facebook.com/BISSStavanger/

We love hearing about what you have planned to celebrate the ocean on June 7th, so please keep sending them to us at [email protected]

Why should your school go plastic free? Emily van de Geer from Surfers Against Sewage has shared this 60 second video explaining how you can make a difference.
